Election 2006
Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District - LVJUSD - Board of Education Trustees
Poll date November 7, 2006

This year, district voters will choose 3 seats on the Board from 4 candidates. There are two incumbents and two new candidates who have qualified to be on the ballot.

This time around, the election may be more spirited than usual. School Board races tend to be low key affairs, but last November's controversial actions may unfortunately introduce a new dimension to the way people feel about electing School Board members.

In November 2005, there was an issue on the ballot called "Measure D 2005". It was a large housing tract proposal near Livermore by Weyerhaeuser Pardee Homes. The Board drafted a "fact sheet" for the supposed purpose of informing voters about its impacts on schools. Many residents viewed the "facts" as slanted in favor of Weyerhaeuser's Measure D, and that the Board was itself advocating for a massive new housing development. The entire process was time consuming for LVJUSD, and its core responsibility running a district in serious financial peril was diluted by wasting precious time and resources on a doomed housing tract.

"Livermore Trails" was soundly defeated 28% to 72%. As Livermore residents tend to have long memories with these issues, it is possible that they will punish the incumbents at the polls for their actions regarding Pardee Weyerhaeuser.

The 2006 candidates are (vote for no more than 3):
